Judge: Homeless can stay in Lakewood's Tent City, for now

LAKEWOOD - Homeless people living in the woods in Lakewood's "Tent City" can stay there while a court battle between their advocates and city officials continues.

A judge in Toms River today refused to order the homeless out of their encampment just off Cedar Bridge Avenue. But the judge acknowledged the current situation can't go on forever.

Superior Court Judge Joseph Foster says the government has some responsibility to care for the poor. He wants both sides to come up with a negotiated end to the years-long standoff regarding the camp.

Judge may decide fate of Lakewood tent city as early as Friday
