NORTH BERGEN - Three people have died and two others were injured in a single-car crash in North Bergen last night.
The driver was reportedly heading east along Route 3 and about to get on the ramp for 495 toward the Lincoln Tunnel when the crash occurred in the early morning hours.
Officials say four victims were ejected from the car, while one remained inside the twisted metal.
The deputy police chief says the 2008 Dodge Charger was traveling at an excessive speed when it hit a concrete pillar and rolled onto an embankment. The pillar was in place to be used around an area where lights were to be installed for Super Bowl preparation.
One of the passengers who died in the crash is 23-year-old Joshua Mayorga, of Union City. The two survivors have been identified as 23-year-old Michael Martinez, of Weehawken, and 18-year-old Roman Rosario.
Rosario is in intensive care with life-threatening injuries. Martinez is in stable condition.
