MIDDLETOWN - A driver was killed after striking a deer, a guardrail and then slamming into a tree in the center median on the Garden State Parkway in Middletown Tuesday.

State police say Joseph DiPadova, 59, died from injuries sustained in the crash.

Tuesday morning's crash closed the northbound express lanes, creating a 13-mile traffic backup and causing delays for motorists. Traffic was backed up to I-195.

State Trooper Jeff Flynn tells the Asbury Park Press it's unclear if weather played a role in the crash.
