SOUTH AMBOY - A 33-year-old Staten Island man is accused in a hit-and-run crash that killed a 4-year-old boy from South Amboy.

Police say John Sanjurjo was driving out of the parking lot of the Diddle Dee Deli in Staten Island when he hit 34-year-old Arini Thomas, 7-year-old Gabriella Gendy and 4-year-old Kyrillos Gendy, who was killed. The mother and daughter are being treated for minor injuries.

Witnesses have reportedly said that after the driver hit the family, he got out of the car to inspect what had happened. He then got back into his car and drove off.

The family was walking back to their car after dinner at a relative’s house when the accident occurred.

Sanjurjo faces multiple charges, including leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death.
