EDISON - The son of a firefighter who was killed in the line of duty in February has lost his battle with leukemia.

News 12 has learned that John Barnas died yesterday. His father, Gregory Barnas, died back in February after falling from a roof during a restaurant fire in Wallington.

On her Facebook page, Greg's wife and John's mother posted, in part: "The only peace I have in this, is knowing he will be with Greg and I'm sure he welcomed him with open arms... I hope he is riding a fire truck with his dad in heaven, he is in no more pain, and finally has the strength to do everything he wants to do with no limitations."

Wake services for Barnas will be held Wednesday at Warner-Wozniak Funeral Home. A funeral Mass is scheduled for Thursday morning at the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus church.
