PATERSON - The suspect in the deadly shooting of a 12-year-old girl who was hit while riding her scooter in Paterson has pleaded not guilty.
Jhymiere Moore had an initial court appearance on Friday.
The 19-year-old pleaded not guilty to first-degree murder and weapons charges in the death of Genesis Rincon. The 12-year-old was struck in the head as she rode a scooter with two friends Saturday night on Rosa Parks Boulevard near Warren Street. Two other children who were with her were not injured.
Moore's lawyer, Harley Breite, says Moore turned himself in because he heard he was a target of the investigation.
Moore's bail was kept at $3 million, but Breite says he will file a motion to get that reduced.
