EAST RUTHERFORD - The NFL season openers for the New York Giants and New York Jets are today.
The Jets defeated the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, 15-14, at MetLife Stadium with rookie quarterback Geno Smith at the helm. Smith went 24/38 for 256 yards with one touchdown and one interception.
A late hit by Bucs linebacker Lavonte David put the Jets in field goal range late in the fourth quarter, allowing Nick Folk to kick the game winner.
The Giants will play in the national spotlight tonight against their NFC rivals, the Dallas Cowboys. Big Blue is 4-0 at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington and they hope to keep the winning streak alive tonight at 8:30 p.m.
In other football news, the NFL confirmed today that Bruno Mars will perform at the Super Bowl halftime show at MetLife Stadium in 2014.
