WALL - The weather was better this year than last year and the economy was sunnier as well, both giving a boost to sales at the Jersey Shore.

Sales of apparel and beach umbrellas were up in 2010 compared to 2009. Eastern Line in Belmar says they were hit hard last year and were happy to sell more this year. However, Jerome Beckman, the owner of Beckman's On the Beach, says that some days were too hot to hit the sand.

Beckman says that business was actually a lot quieter than expected with the nice weather since it was too hot. He says he's considering getting out of the convenience store business altogether with his bottom line this year only slightly better than last year.
