JERSEY CITY - Jersey City police officers traded in their regular gear for fishing poles as they participated in the 14th annual "Fishing With Friends Outing" at Liberty State Park Wednesday.
Officers hosted about 90 clients of Hudson Milestone, an organization that serves children and adults with developmental disabilities.
The officers and their guests say they all benefited from the event.
"This is why everyone became a police officer," says Carmine Disbrow, of the Jersey City Police Officers' Benevolent Association. "Not to go out and arrest people, but to interact with the community and do things for people who need it in community."
Organizers say the clients look forward to the fishing and barbecue event all year long. The officers volunteer their time to participate in the event.
