JERSEY CITY - Local leaders really want to get people in Jersey City walking around, and they are closing down a major road to do it.

During posted days and times, Newark Avenue will become a pedestrian mall where people can walk or sit in the middle of the street and enjoy the environment free of traffic.

Jersey City's pedestrian area stretches for about 500 feet from the Grove Street Path up to Erie Street.

The trial program will run for about three months.
