JERSEY CITY - People in Jersey City are hoping that new restaurants will bring larger crowds to the downtown community. City officials announced today that Restaurant Row will be extended by 12 blocks on Newark Avenue.
The owner of Madame Claude on Fourth Street, Alice Troietto, says it's time her French bistro was part of Jersey City's Restaurant Row, even if it means new restaurants moving close by.
She tells News 12 New Jersey that she thinks competition from more restaurants would be good.
Restaurant Row is a matter of zoning, more than marketing This will ease regulations, so new restaurants can open faster, purchase liquor licenses more readily and have outdoor seating more of the year.
The idea is that restaurants make neighborhoods appealing, bring out of town visitors and keep downtown residents dining out close to home.
