Jersey City child Jayden Thaxton stable after being shot

Authorities say a 5-year-old boy who was shot in the abdomen in Jersey City is in stable condition after undergoing surgery.

JERSEY CITY - Authorities say a 5-year-old boy who was shot in the abdomen in Jersey City is in stable condition after undergoing surgery.

The shooting happened right after P.S. 14 let out around 3:30 p.m. Wednesday near the intersection of Martin Luther King Jr. Drive and Union Street.

Jayden Thaxon was only a block away from his classroom when was shot in the abdomen. He was taken to Jersey City Medical Center, where he underwent surgery.

It wasn't clear what sparked the shooting, but neighbors say they saw people running through the streets and heard shots being fired.
    
No arrests have been made.
