JERSEY CITY - A Jersey City business owner who was attacked in an armed robbery last year has died from his injuries, and now officials are hoping the public can help solve the case.

Irving Catlow, 74, was attacked inside his moving company Catlow Movers on Nov. 4, 2016. It is a business that has been in Jersey City for over 80 years.

“His heart was in it,” says Catlow’s son Mark. "I'm hoping for some closure."

Authorities say two black men walked into the office around 8:30 a.m. One was shot, the other was tall, say officials. Catlow was beaten about the head with a chrome handgun. The two men stole $400 and Catlow’s keys and took off.

Catlow as rushed to Jersey City Medical Center for treatment. He son says that he was eventually released, but then had to go back due to complications. Catlow died from his injuries April 1, 2017.

The Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office is now investigating the crime as a homicide. The office is asking for the public’s help.

“However insignificant the members of the public think it would be, to us it might be valuable,” says Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez. “It’s important for us to try to help out Mark [Catlow] and try to solve this crime.”

Catlow Movers has been a fixture in Jersey City ever since Catlow’s father started the business in 1932. The name and logo have been a fixture on Summit Avenue.

There were no surveillance cameras outside the business when the attack happened.

Anyone who might have any information about the attack is asked to contact the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office at 201-915-1345 or leave an anonymous tip HERE.
