JERSEY CITY - Developers have broken ground in Jersey City on what will soon be the tallest residential building in the state.
The Urban Living Ready Harborside, nicknamed URL, will stand 69 stories tall and offer 763 rental units.
It will be built in the waterfront area near the Grove Street PATH station. The building will be the first of its kind with energy-efficient infrastructure.
"It will remake the entire Jersey City skyline," says Jersey City Mayor Steven Fulop. "And it really speaks to what we are trying to achieve in Jersey City overall, which is lead the state of New Jersey in job creation and residential development."
The URL is a joint project of Mack-Cali Realty Corp. and Ironstate Development.
The building is the first of three planned high-rise apartments that will be known as Harborside Plaza.
The state's tallest building of any kind is the Goldman Sachs office tower, also in Jersey City. It stands at 781 feet. The URL will be 713 feet tall.
Construction is set to be complete in mid-2016.
