Jersey City attacker carves 'nark' into victim's chest; police say man was not an informant

JERSEY CITY - A Bergen County man is recovering after being attacked and left with the word “nark” carved into his chest.

Police say the 34-year-old victim was found near the intersection of Brunswick Street and Columbus Drive in Jersey City at around 4 a.m. Wednesday.

The man was left unconscious and the attacker or attackers cut the word "nark," into his chest. The fastening pin of a police-type badge was jabbed through the man's cheek, police say.

He was taken to nearby Jersey City Medical Center, where he was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

Jersey City police say the victim has no memory of the assault, and that he is not an officer or an informant.
