PARSIPPANY - Jersey Central Power and Light is teaming up with electrical contractors to provide a faster response during disasters.
The power company is partnering with IBEW Local 102.
Electrical engineers and contractors will be dispatched following major storms to protect the public from downed wires and other hazards.
"They will help JCP&L identify hazards, help do some repairs to services to customers' homes," says JCP&L president Jim Fakult. "The outcome will be a quicker restoration."
Under the new partnership, 400 electrical contractors will receive classroom instruction and field training. They will also be able to address other electrical problems during storms, like hooking up generators and helping at power charging stations.
