EDISON - Jersey Central Power and Light, one of the state's largest utility companies, says it's preparing for widespread power outages due to Hurricane Sandy.

Officials from JCP&L say outages could last between seven and 10 days if the storm is as bad as some forecasters predict.

JCP&L assures customers that unlike what happened during Hurricane Irene, the company is better equipped to communicate throughout the storm.

The company plans to continually update customers through Facebook and on its new Twitter account.
