NEWARK - A gun scare at a Newark elementary school has parents criticizing how the situation was handled. They expressed their frustrations at a meeting Tuesday evening.
The Ivy Hill Elementary School was placed under lockdown Monday after reports that a person was inside the school with a gun. It turned out to be a misunderstanding. No weapon was found. However, parents say they are concerned about how information was passed along to them.
"I was one of the first parents out here," says mother Jenetta Mark. "I was hysterical. I didn't know what was going on. Nobody was saying anything."
Parents met with school administrators Tuesday to get more information. Officials told the parents that a student claimed to have found a bullet inside the cafeteria.
The parents say they are happy the situation wasn't more serious, but wish administrators told them more.
The Newark School District did not return News 12 New Jersey's messages for comment.
