Irvington Police Chief Michael Chase has been suspended

Irvington Police Chief Michael Chase has been suspended without pay.

EDISON - Irvington's police chief is suspended without pay over allegations of repeated abuses of power.

Chief Michael Chase was the subject of a Kane In Your Corner investigation last year when he was caught allegedly sleeping on the job.

Chase has also been the target of several lawsuits, including suits from four female officers and aides accusing him of sexual harassment or discrimination.

In this most recent investigation, Chase is accused of misusing the department's internal affairs unit by ordering them to investigate officers who didn't deserve it, while instructing them not to investigate his nephew, an officer with the department.

Irvington's police director says Chase will remain suspended while the department completes a full investigation into the allegations.
