IRVINGTON - The mayor of Irvington is proposing a plan he hopes will help in the fight against crime.
Under Mayor Tony Vauss’s proposal, any business in the city open past 8 p.m. would be required to install security cameras.
"The most I’m looking for is to prevent future crimes,” says Vauss. “When people know we have camera systems all over town, it adds a value to community, and people would think twice about committing crimes."
The cameras would have to be registered with the Irvington Police Department.
If the City Council passes the ordinance, businesses and residential buildings with four or more units would be required to install the cameras by the end of July.
Mayor Vauss says the city will work with those who may need more time to comply.
