NEWARK - The Essex County Prosecutor's Office is investigating a claim by a track athlete from Irvington High School that she was raped by three men.

The student told police she was abducted after taking a bus to Newark Wednesday and assaulted inside an abandoned building.

According to the report, the student claims she was walking on 14th Avenue when she was taken by three men. She describes the vehicle as a black newer-model Jeep with tinted windows.

The student says she was driven to 21st Street in Newark and taken into a white abandoned building, where she was forced to have sex with all three men.

There are many abandoned buildings along the street, something that residents have worried about. "What concerns me is that they have been abandoned for such a long time and it takes such a long time to take them down," says Robert Wright.

The girl told detectives that when it was over, the alleged suspects kept her undergarments. She was forced back into the van and dropped off on Clinton Avenue in Irvington.

The student's claims are under investigation.
