FREEHOLD TOWNSHIP - Residents of Freehold Township continue to deal without power after Hurricane Irene knocked out service to thousands of residents.

According to the Jersey Central Power and Light (JCP&L) website, about 7,000 customers are without power in Freehold. More than 80,000 are without service countywide.

JCP&L officials say they hope to get service restored within the next 24 hours.

Police have shut down several roadways due to downed trees and power lines.
