Iraq war veteran killed in stabbing

BRICK TOWNSHIP - A stabbing in Ocean County has left an Iraq war veteran, Adam Ferguson, 33, from Bayville, dead.

The fatal stabbing took place on Marilyn Drive yesterday in Brick Township at around 6:30 p.m.

Authorities say Joseph Bellisano, Jr., 27, was selling prescription drugs in the house where he lived with his parents, Police say two men wielding a knife showed up Sunday evening to rob him of oxycodone pills and cash.

Police say Bellisano had a knife of his own and fought back. According to authorities, he stabbed Adam Ferguson in the back. Bellisano's father then called 911.

Before his death, Ferguson wrote about a painful shot to the leg in Iraq on Facebook. Ocean County Prosecutor Marlene Lynch Ford says it could explain his desire for pain medication, though she says it does not justify his actions.

The other alleged robber, Mark Dillard, had his first appearance in court Monday. Bellisano was released on a summons. He's being charged with drug possession and intent to sell.

Dillard is charged with first-degree robbery and is being held on $350,000 bail.
