Investigators kick motor pool probe into high gear

EDISON - State investigators are looking into possible wrongdoing at the motor pool of the Passaic County Sheriff's Department.

Investigators with the state Attorney General's Office dug through files at the motor pool Thursday morning, looking for evidence that someone stole property paid for by taxpayers.

The Attorney General's Office says that no arrests have been made, but sources tell Kane in Your Corner that 49-year-old Paul Mariano is the focus of the investigation. Mariano is a civilian who ran the motor pool and served as a driver for Sheriff Jerry Speziale.

Speziale stepped down as sheriff just last week.

A spokesman for the county says the Sheriff's Department learned about the investigation earlier this week and offered the Attorney General's Office full access to its property and files.

No one has been taken into custody yet, but sources tell Kane in Your Corner that there could be arrests as soon as tomorrow.
