Hundreds of thousands of homeowners are likely to file Sandy-related claims.

EDISON - Hundreds of thousands of New Jersey homeowners will be filing insurance claims due to Hurricane Sandy.

Homeowners are advised to assess the damage first, then take photographs. Officials say people should not wait to get urgent repairs, but should instead fix them immediately and save all receipts.

Also, homeowners should save all receipts for hotel rooms used and meals eaten when their homes were unavailable.

Homeowners should also be present for their inspection.

Anyone having trouble filing a claim should contact the New Jersey Division of Banking and Insurance.
