NEWARK - Most consumers aren't sure whether or not they are really getting the amount of food that the package claims. In order to investigate, the New Jersey Division of Weights and Measures sent employees out to check if consumers are getting shortchanged.
During their probe, investigators checked how much fat is in the ground beef residents buy.
Investigators claim that packages are more than 50 percent short sometimes in supermarkets. For these violations, businesses can be fined thousands of dollars.
