TRENTON - Five Princeton University students traveled to the New Jersey State Prison today to take on inmates in a chess challenge.

The “Inmates vs. Ivies” showdown has been going on for more than a decade. The highly rated chess players from the university took on several offenders in separate chess matches.

State Department of Corrections officials say the event aims to pit book smarts against street smarts, with the chess board as the common denominator.
