EDISON - The northbound lanes on the Pulaski Skyway are now closed, and they will remain closed for the next two years as the state Department of Transportation performs rehabilitation work on the bridge deck.

Southbound lanes will remain open, according to the DOT. Once the northbound work is completed, crews will start working on the southboud side.

The work will affect an estimated 40,000 travelers each day. The DOT is urging commuters to become familiar with alternate routes or to use mass transit/ride-sharing options to avoid delays.

The DOT says it will increase capacity at key locations and roadways such as the New Jersey Turnpike and Route 1&9T to receive the diverted Pulaski Skyway traffic.
