Info released on death in Bayonne trailer park standoff

BAYONNE - An autopsy is expected soon for the man shot and killed by police in Bayonne last night.

The Hudson County Prosecutor's Office says the incident is believed to have started after the man barricaded himself in his home.

Police officers eventually made their way inside the home, where they say they encountered a man with a knife. A confrontation ensued, and police opened fire and killed him.

Investigators identified the man as Mariano Vargas. Officials say he had a history of psychiatric issues. The prosecutor's office is continuing to investigate the case.Officer shoots suspect in standoff at Bayonne trailer park
