AVON-BY-THE-SEA - Beachgoers could see some rough surf at the Jersey Shore just as Labor Day weekend gets into high gear.

Rip currents have already been reported this summer, but if Hurricane Cristobal travels its predicted path, yellow flags are likely on the beaches this weekend.

The storm has already dumped heavy rain on Puerto Rico and the Caribbean. The National Weather Service expects Cristobal to strengthen before it curves away from the East Coast.

If Cristobal stays on track, vacationers in Southern states will see rougher surf mid-week.

AP wire services contributed to this report.
