EDISON - Newark Liberty International Airport is trying to resume normal operations this afternoon after flights were canceled earlier due to the overnight snowstorm.

Nearly 500 flights were grounded, mainly flights departing before midday heading to the New England area.

Port Authority officials say 1,718 flights had been canceled among all three New Jersey-area airports.

Officials say there are no significant delays on arriving or departing flights, but they advise travelers to check with their airlines for changes as the backlog eases.
