BELLEVILLE - Hundreds of homes and businesses in Belleville are without water as crews scramble to repair a broken 12-inch water main.
Up to 1,000 residential and commercial customers were affected by the break after 7 a.m. Tuesday morning at the intersection of Belleville and South Franklin avenues.
Township manager Kevin Esposito says the pipe was shut off around 2 p.m. and repairs will continue into the evening.
Those impacted are on the south side of town. All residents were notified of the break through reverse 911 calls from the town.
The local Clairmont Hospital is not affected by the break. No boil water advisory has been issued.
Water service is expected to be restored overnight.
