NEWARK - Hundreds gathered in Newark today to celebrate the life of singer Whitney Houston on the anniversary of her death.

Hordes of fans attended the memorial service held at New Hope Baptist Church, where Houston sang in the choir as a child.

A video highlighting the famous singer's career played on a big screen during the service. Among the many speakers was her mother, Cissy Houston.

Whitney Houston, 48, drowned in the bathtub of her hotel room last year in Beverly Hills. An autopsy later revealed drugs in her system.
