HOBOKEN - Police have released a sketch of a man wanted in connection with the sexual assault of a woman in Hoboken Saturday.

Hudson County Acting Prosecutor Gaetano T. Gregory says the victim, a woman in her 30s, was on her way home at approximately 1:15 a.m. when she was allegedly attacked by an armed man in the front hallway of her apartment building near Monroe and First streets. The suspect fled the scene on foot.

Police say the suspect is white or Hispanic and believed to be in his late 30s to early 40s. He is approximately 5 feet 9 inches tall and 180 to 200 pounds. He has a husky build with brown eyes, blond hair, goatee and a scruffy beard. The suspect was last seen wearing a dark-colored hooded sweatshirt, dark jeans and a backward-fitted cap.

Women who live in the area were surprised to learn of the attack, but say they still consider Hoboken to be safe. "That doesn't change what I do at night," says Clarabel Rojas. "I'm actually always careful, especially at that hour of the night."

It is unclear whether or not the suspect followed the victim to her building or was lying in wait. Investigators say they have been looking at surveillance video from nearby cameras.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Hudson County Prosecutor's Office.
