WASHINGTON - (AP) - The Republican-controlled House has voted torepeal the health care law President Barack Obama signed last year.
The 245-189 vote marks the fulfillment of a promise manyRepublicans made in last fall's political campaigns.
The measure has little or no chance of passing the Senate, whereDemocratic supporters of the law have a majority. And Obama hasvowed to veto it if it reaches his desk.
Republicans said repeal was necessary because the law providesfor a government takeover of the health care system, raises taxesand would destroy jobs.
Democrats denied that, and said repeal would strip Americans ofnew protections against insurance industry abuses that deny themcoverage they have paid for.
