Hot weather helps sales sizzle at the NJ Shore

MANALAPAN - After a slow start to the season, the hot weather is helping sales at the Jersey Shore.

Now that temperatures have heated up, the lines are long and the boardwalks and beaches are busy.

Barry Peterson, who owns the Eastern Lines Surf Shop, says if May had produced more than four days of sunshine, then 2011 could have been one for the record books. However, he isn't complaining since higher temperatures in June and July also heated up sales to their highest levels ever.

This Wednesday, Belmar is hosting its annual sandcastle-building contest, the town's busiest day of the year.
