Hoops world awaits approval of Carmelo to Knicks deal

NEW YORK - Although the NBA hasn't approved the deal yet that sends Denver Nuggets forward Carmelo Anthony to New York, along with several other players, officials from both teams are talking freely about the trade being a done deal. The Knicks agreed to a trade with the Nuggets for Anthony on Monday night, a person with knowledge of the deal told The Associated Press. The three-team deal also includes the Minnesota Timberwolves. The Knicks also would acquire Chauncey Billups, Shelden Williams, Anthony Carter and Renaldo Balkman in the deal that was first reported by the Denver Post. They are trading Wilson Chandler, Raymond Felton, Danilo Gallinari, Timofey Mozgov and a 2014 first-round draft pick to the Nuggets, who would get additional picks and cash. The Timberwolves will be getting Eddy Curry and Anthony Randolph from the Knicks forswingman Corey Brewer, a person with knowledge of the deal confirmed to the AP. The Wolves will also get about $3 million in the deal to buy out Curry's contract. Commenting on the trade today, Knicks star Amar'e Stoudemire said the team would be "hard to guard." He said he had "no doubt" the All-Star forwards and longtime friends could play together, and said Anthony would handle the move to New York as well as he has.
