NEWARK - Several home heating oil delivery trucks were condemned today during an unannounced inspection in Newark.

The state Office of Weights and Measures officers conducted the inspections alongside Doremus Avenue near Port Street, close to the depot where delivery trucks receive fuel.

Many of the trucks were taken out of service due to a problem with the vehicle's dispensing meter. The problems could indicate an inaccurate meter which may shortchange consumers.

Officers checked for tampering with dispensing meters as well as compliance with regulations governing the receipts given to customers and record keeping.

In order to put the trucks back into service, the companies will have to get the meters fixed and re-inspected.
