BASKING RIDGE - Home Depot volunteers gave back to their community Thursday to thank their veterans.

A group of 100 volunteers spent the day creating gardens, building picnic tables and landscaping at Valley Brook Village for Veterans.

The property is the first permanent supportive housing village for veterans in northern New Jersey.

"We are going to have a vegetable garden and herb garden," says property manager Carrie Radice. "They decorated the flag, we got counters inside, more than I could possibly think of."

Since 2011, Home Depot has invested more than $65 million to ensure veterans have a safe place to call home.
