RIVER EDGE - Members of the Bergen County Historical Society say they need about $350,000 to restore the historic Steuben House.
The Steuben House played a key role during the American Revolution. Historians say George Washington rode through the area to head off British troops.
Historical Society member Kevin Wright says the property provided the only escape route through Bergen County.
The house has been converted to a museum, but hasn't been open to the public since 2007. That's when a surge from the Hackensack River flooded the building and damaged artifacts.
If enough money is raised, the museum can be open once again.
