MONTVALE - A high school football player has inspired a lot of people in his short life, but he never expected that would include the Yankees.
Quai Jefferson is a stellar student and football player. He just graduated from St. Joseph Regional in Montvale. But perhaps his most important job is taking care of his mother, Vaida, who's been battling multiple sclerosis for more than 10 years.
"She's my rock," Jefferson says. "She's my world. She's been everything to me and I'm taking care of her the way she took care of me when I was little."
It's been just the two of them for most of Jefferson's childhood, but now some major league players have heard the 18-year-old's story.
Several star players including C.C. Sabathia, Masahiro Tanaka and Mark Teixeira showed up Friday to surprise Jefferson and invite him to their game against the Orioles.
