NEWARK - Heavy fog caused delays at Newark Liberty International Airport Thursday, creating headaches for thousands of travelers flying in and out of the Garden State.

The fog and clouds in New Jersey, combined with snow, ice, wind and frigid temperatures in other parts of the country, caused travel troubles for everyone.

Ann Rose, from Canada, had a difficult flight Thursday. "Low ceiling, clouds from 20,000 feet to 100 feet. Very dense and you couldn't see anything," she says. "They had us in holding pattern for a while."

The Sapkal family was going home to India for a wedding. They missed their connecting flight which has just doubled their trip time.

"It was 24 hours today," says Kedar Sapkal. "But now we have to stay in Newark 24 hours more."

There were delays of up to three hours Thursday, but many flights boarded after nightfall.
