NEWARK - New Jersey?s heat wave rose to new levels today, as records were set across the state.

The National Weather Service says Newark hit 108 degrees, beating the all-time record of 105 degrees set in 2001. The previous record for today's date in the city was 101 degrees in 1957.

Other records shattered in New Jersey include Atlantic City which reached 104 degrees, to wipe out the previous record of 100 degrees for today's date in 1957. Trenton hit 105 degrees, surpassing the previous record of 101 degrees for today's date in 1926.
