LAKEWOOD - Hazmat crews responded to an industrial park on Lehigh Avenue in Lakewood after dozens of workers began feeling sick.

A total of 34 people were sent to four hospitals after becoming sick at around noon Thursday. Symptoms included chest pains and lightheadedness.

Authorities say two gases, carbon dioxide and nitrogen, were leaking from inside the frozen meal company.

The leak was considered minor and no one was seriously injured, but fire officials say high levels of exposure to those gases could be deadly.

The building's ventilation system is on, but officials are not sure if it was on at the time of the incident.

All workers have gone home for the day and the incident is under investigation.
