HASBROUCK HEIGHTS - Residents in Hasbrouck Heights say they are fed up with power outages constantly affecting the area.
Luke Incognito says his electricity just isn't dependable. He and his neighbors say it goes out all the time, during storms, and even on clear days.
"It's very frustrating," says Incognito. "You have no heat. Your refrigerator is out. If you don't have lanterns, you have no lights."
For some, the power outages are just a nuisance. But for others who need electricity to power medical equipment, they present a potentially life-threatening situation. The power is so unreliable that many have bought their own generators.
PSE&G says the problem has been caused by trees touching power lines and equipment issues. Residents say the company has only been putting temporary fixes on the problem.
The utility says it will be trimming trees in the next few weeks. It also says it has installed a new transformer and repaired wires in the area.
Town officials in Hasbrouck Heights, residents and a representative from PSE&G met last week to discuss the outages. They plan to revisit the issue in the coming weeks.
