Postal warehouse in New Jersey cleared because of odor (5/15/15)

HAMILTON - Postal Service employees are poised to return to a central New Jersey warehouse that was evacuated after some were sickened by an unknown odor.

The incident occurred Friday morning on northbound Route 130 in Hamilton, Mercer County.

A Postal Service spokesman said some employees at the Trenton Carrier Annex reported feeling dizzy and nauseous from a "strong, sweet odor." About a dozen were treated at the scene.

Spokesman Ray Daiutolo said separate inspections by state and local hazmat teams came back negative.

Employees were expected to return to the building Friday afternoon.

The facility is used by carriers to pick up mail for delivery.

It is roughly a mile away from a postal facility that was contaminated by anthrax soon after the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.
