HALEDON - The year 2013 ended on a tragic note for more than a dozen people left homeless by a fire in Passaic County.

The fast-moving blaze destroyed two homes and badly damaged a third on Morrisee Avenue just before 10 p.m. last night.

Michael Zobbi, a resident in one of the houses, says the seven residents in the homes escaped unharmed with just the clothes on their backs.

Fire officials say scores of firefighters battled the fire for hours into the new year before it was brought under control.

Neighbors tell News 12 the blaze was visible from a half mile away and flames shot 60 feet into the air. Demolition crews were on the scene today tearing down what was left of the wreckage.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
