TRENTON - Protecting high school athletes and cracking down on domestic violence were among the topics discussed in Trenton today.

The Senate Education Committee moved forward with plans to raise awareness about the dangers of brain injuries in high school athletes.

Niki Popyer is a former high school athlete suffering from concussion-related symptoms. She hopes the law, which requires schools to develop plans to treat athletes with concussions, will save kids from the headaches, dizziness and depression she deals with on a daily basis.

Assemblywoman Linda Greenstein's committee moved three bills that would provide resources to victims of abuse. Assemblyman Patrick Diegnan also held a hearing to study the impact school construction delays are having on education and the economy.
