Gunman shoots 2 Passaic brothers after roadside dispute

PATERSON - (AP) - Paterson police say two brothers were shotseveral times by an acquaintance they encountered while they wereout driving early Sunday.

Officers responding to reports of shots fired found the victimsin their car around 2:50 a.m.

Police Sgt. Patrick Murray says the brothers - identified onlyas 28- and 34-year-old Passaic residents -saw the acquaintance andstopped on the side of the road to speak with him. But a disputesoon developed and the man fired several shots as the brothers fledthe scene.

The victims were taken to St. Joseph's Medical Center inPaterson. The younger man was in critical but stable condition withupper back and abdomen wounds, while his older brother was instable condition with wounds to the right arm and lower abdomen.
