PEQUANNOCK - Efforts are underway to preserve a 270-year-old home in Morris County.
Historians estimate that the Martin Berry House in Pequannock was built around 1740, but no one knows for sure.
A group of preservationists wants the town to buy the property and preserve it.
Current owner Eleanor Bogert has been living there since 1951 and wants the house to continue to be a teaching tool "for future generations."
"Once it's gone, it's gone," she says.
Some council members are concerned the house will become a financial burden if the town buys it.
Historians will make an official presentation to council in October.
